Overlooking the spa town of Matlock lies The Old Butchers Cottage, a lovingly renovated large detached three bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage. Each room has been beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high standard.
Until the late 1940's this cottage was the local butchers shop, but shortly after the war the owner moved the business premises over the road and converted the cottage into living accommodation. From its elevated position in the town the cottage has views of the surrounding hills - Riber and Masson.
The small picturesque town of Matlock is ideal as a base for exploring the area with its almost endless variety of interesting places, ranging from the natural beauty of the Peaks, Dales and Caverns, through stately homes to museums of our industrial heritage and numerous craft and antique centres.
There are also holiday attractions aplenty in and around the town including Chatsworth House, the National Tramway Museum, Matlock Bath’s cable car, Peak Steam Railway, Gullivers Kingdom, not to mention the brilliant walks through the scenery and villages of the Peak District.
The Old Butchers Cottage is a superbly appointed cottage. A morning wander will get you to the local newsagents for your paper. Try the Greedy Pig just around the corner for scrumptious lunchtime sandwiches or perhaps wander down the hill to the excellent Café in the Park for delicious homemade cakes in the delightful setting of Hall Leys Park. A number of pubs are within easy walking of the cottage for a well deserved evening meal. Its great to walk to the Thorn Tree Inn and relax on the patio drinking in the view down Matlock Gorge...
